California's Constitution states that county can either be
Chartered Counties or
General Law Counties.
The county of Mendocino is a "General Law" county.
That means that the Board of Supervisors (BOS) is both the Executive branch and the Legislative branch of the county government.
The County Courts constitute the Judicial branch.

The members of the Mendocino County Board of Supervisors' term is five years and they are:
Madeline Cline: 1st District: Elected in November 2024
Maureen Mulheren: 2nd District: elected in November 2020
John Haschak 3rd District: Elected in November 2018
Bernie Norvell: 4th District: Elected in November 2024
Ted Williams: 5th District: Elected in November 2020

To oversee the daily operations of the County of mendocino, the county appoints a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Mendocino County's CEO is Carmel J. Angelo. She has been in office since 2010.
